OMNIBUS SOCIETY PRESIDENTIAL WEEKEND
l7th - 20th SEPTEMBER 1999
You are invited to participate in an attractive weekend package in Surrey and adjoining counties, organised by our 1999 President, Mr.Stephen Morris, Editor of Buses Magazine for Ian Allan Publishing Ltd.
To mark the historical significance of 1999 to both The Omnibus Society and the Ian Allan Organisation, a suitably historic venue has been chosen for our accommodation. The Royal Holloway College at Egham in Surrey [now a campus of the University of London] was founded by the entrepreneur and philanthropist, Thomas Holloway, and opened in 1886. The main building, now known appropriately as Founders Hall, is a shining example of 19th Century architecture, inspired by the Chateau de Chambord in the Loire Valley, and many of the rooms still contain their original Victorian furniture and fittings.
Our accommodation will be in Founders Hall itself, and we would point out, in view of the age of the premises, that the rooms come equipped with washbasins only. For any Members who are in special need of en-suite shower facilities, we have reserved a small number of rooms in the modern Reid Hall (built in 1985), but it is hoped that the majority will enter into the sense of occasion by staying in the original magnificent building.
The College is on the A30, about a mile south-west of the town of Egham, so it is strongly recommended that Members book evening meals "in house".
