OSMART
Omnibus Society members can subscribe to the OSMART service which buys items of bus literature and complete collections at prices equal to, if not better than, those of commercial dealers. Initially, any items that are not represented in the Society library are diverted there. The remainder are listed in catalogues which are issued at approximately bi-monthly intervals.
In the first instance the catalogues are issued to subscribing Society members only, who thus have first choice of purchasing many rare books, timetables and other transport ephemera at sensible prices.
Transport enthusiasts who are not members of the Society can also subscribe to the OSMART catalogues. These are sent out about one month after their original publication, together with a list of items that have then been sold.
If you have items of transport interest for disposal, please consider The Omnibus Society first. You do not have to be a member of the Society to take advantage of this service, and enquiries from other transport enthusiasts are always welcome. You can contact the OSMART Scheme Organiser for any further details of the scheme at dwrffordd@btinternet.com.
How OSMART relates to the Society
The relationship between OSMART and the Society has been clarified.
It has now been decided that OSMART will have affiliated body status, and the Council has issued the following memorandum.
- This note sets out the basis of understanding on which the Omnibus Society confers Affiliated Body status on the organisation known as OSMART.
- OSMART provides a service for the purchase, sale and distribution of transport material of all kinds at fair and affordable prices.
- OSMART offers first preference for the purchase of material to the Omnibus Society Library. In offering material for subsequent general sale, priority will be given to Omnibus Society members, usually through the earlier dispatch to them of the OSMART sales catalogue.
- OSMART makes regular financial donations to the Omnibus Society Library from its catalogue subscriptions and sales activities. An annual record is kept of the transactions between OSMART and the OS Library. This record is available to the Society's Treasurer.
- The Society designates OSMART as its principal agent for the handling (and where appropriate sale) of gifts and bequests to the Society of transport material.
- As an Affilated Body, OSMART is entitled to use the Omnibus Society name.
- OSMART may send a representative (currently Derek Broadhurst) both to the Society's Library & Archive Sub-Committee and to the OS Council.
