Meetings and Visits in 2003


Meetings and Visits are open to all Members of the Society, and often to non-members, subject to limits on numbers and prior booking with the Branch Secretary:

Members should note that all visits are bookable beforehand and anyone arriving without a prior booking may not be able to take part in the event.

  • SATURDAY 18th January 2003:

    Fred Kennington, former GM of Greater Manchester Buses and author, will talk on his researches into bus services in The Borders
    2pm at Brunswick Church Centre, near Monument Metro, Newcastle

  • SATURDAY 15th FEBRUARY 2003:

    Well known photographer and author Gavin Booth will give an illustrated talk entitled "Transport in Edinburgh"
    2pm at Stockton Library

  • SATURDAY 22nd MARCH 2003 :

    Branch AGM (morning), followed (afternoon) by talk by well known transport journalist Ian Yearlsey
    at Stockton Library

  • SATURDAY 26th APRIL 2003:

    Talk by Mike Fenton, well known for his column in Buses magazine - The Fenton File

  • Sunday 6th July, 2003

    Joint visit with United Enthusiasts Club to Birmingham and Midland Bus Museum, Wythall, using an Arriva coach. Cost around £8.50 including entry

  • Saturday 9th August, 2003

    Study tour in North Yorkshire area, using service buses. This trip joint with North West & Yorkshire branch.

  • Monday 25th August, 2003

    Branch stall will be at Seaburn bus rally - get your winter reading - wide selection of secondhand books & magazines..

  • Saturday 6th September, 2003

    Members are invuted to join United Enthusiasts Club on a visit to the Carlisle area, using a preserved vehicle from the Aycliffe & District "fleet"..

  • Saturday 11th October 2003

    2pm at Stockton Library - talk by John Banks (of Venture Publications) about United in the time of his living in the North East in the late 1960's..

    Stockton Library is situated just off Stockton High Street

  • Saturday November 15th, 2003

    2pm at Brunswick Church Centre - branch member Mike Harper-Tarr will talk about Carlisle in the 1950's.

    Brunswick Church Centre is situated in Central Newcastle, off Blackett Street, behind Fenwicks.
