The Herts and Beds Group


This autonomous group holds regular winter meetings, usually on the third Wednesday in the month, at Challney Community College, Stoneygate Road, Luton, at 7.30 for 8.00 p.m., and a summer "Outdoor Event".

There is no formal membership - all are welcome - but a charge of £2.00 is made to cover the cost of room hire.

Luton Corporation Transport and Beyond

On the eve of the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Luton Tramways system, we present the story of Luton Corporation Transport from the first plans of 1900 until the demise in 1932, and the first year of replacement bus operation - hopefully illustrated with artefacts associated with the Tramways and initial tram replacement.

Graham Smith will mark the 80th Anniversary of the appearance of Birch Brothers on the London-Bedford Coach Service (on 31st October) by telling the story of the competition on this route between 1927 and 1934.
