For many years the area comprising London and the South East of England was not served by a branch, but was the preserve of the Headquarters of the Society. This has now been rectified by the formation of the Eastern and Southern Branch, which organises a programme of summer visits and winter meetings. The Summer Visits are open to non-members if space allows.
Saturday, 7th May 2005 Visit to Blue Triangle and Trip by RT Bus around Abridge and Ongar A visit has been arranged to Blue Triangle's garage at Rainham, where a fascinating collection of historic ex-London vehicles is housed alongside their current fleet for normal services. One of their RT type vehicles will pick up the party at Stratford Bus Station at 10:00. There will be difficulties in waiting there for anyone arriving late, and the bus may have to do a circuit of the Stratford gyratory and come back for them. Please contact mobile phone 0773 909 4713 if a problem is encountered in getting to Stratford. We will start by following former route 10 to Abridge "Blue Boar" as closely as is now physically possible, then continuing to follow route 175 when it operated from Ongar to Romford, where we will stop for a lunch break. The visit to the garage at Rainham will be next, and the return to Stratford, following route 175 towards its original terminus at Blackwall Tunnel, will end the day. The charge for the trip and visit should only be about £7, and will be payable on the day. Anyone intending to participate is asked to telephone the Visits Secretary on 01689-858 155, or by E-mail on s-cornwell@supanet.com. |

Saturday 8th October 2005
A joint meeting with the SW&W Branch will be held in Eastleigh, featuring a talk by Phil Stockley, MD of Solent Blue Line, a well-known enthusiast. Given the news that Musterphantom (the Southern Vectis Group) has been sold to Go-Ahead, this will surely be an event of considerable interest to look forward to.
The meeting will be held at the Point Centre, close to Eastleigh bus and railweay stations, at 14:00. Mr Stockley has also agreed to a morning visit to the Barton Park depot complex, a short walk from the stations, at 11:30. There is a limit on numbers, so prior registration is essential, by E-mail to OS4DJB@aol.com or by letter (with an SAE for joining details) to: Branch Chairman, OS-SWWPlease give your name and address, and state whether you are attending one or both of the events.
