Visit to Oxford

We have been invited by Philip Kirk, Managing Director of the Oxford Bus Company, to see the changes since our last visit.

A bus or coach from the Company will depart from Hillingdon Station (Metropolitan and Piccadilly Lines) at 10:00. A final look at Cowley Road garage will be included, as will a visit to the site of the new garage, soon to replace it.

A lunch break in the centre of Oxford will give participants time to study a typical Saturday's bus movements in the city.

We will also call on Thames Travel in Wallingford and hopefully witness the new bus interchange in the town in action.

The intention is to be back at Hillingdon by 18:00

The generosity of the Company has enabled us to offer rthis visit for the bargain price of £5, payable on board. We have not been able to provide a trip of this distance so cheaply for many years.

Anyone intending to participate is asked to telephone the Visits Secretary on 01689-858 155.

Visit to the Crawley "Fastway"

Following the talk at the London meeting in April, the Society has been invited by Metrobus to see "Fastway" in action.

They will take us over the current route and will also show us the routes where there are plans for further expansion. We will have another chance to see inside the garage and there will no doubt be time for a break at the Town Centre Bus Station.

The visit will start at Redhill Bus Station Station at 11:00. A 20-minute service to redhill from West Croydon Bus Station on Route 405 operates on a Saturday morning. Those travelling into London on a Travelcard can continue by train to East or West Croydon, Purley or, even, Coulsdon South and transfer there to the 405. London "Freedom" passes are unfortunately NOT valid to Redhill.

We will almost certainly be back at Redhill by late afternoon. It is anticipated that the charge for the visit will be a bargain at £5, payable on the day. Let us show our appreciation of the invitation with a higher than usual number of participants.

Anyone intending to participate is asked to telephone the Visits Secretary on 01689-858 155, or by E-mail on s-cornwell@supanet.com.
