- Pennines, based on Leeds, hosted by Don Akrigg and Ken Swallow, will use old and new vehicles to visit two well-known operators, inspect Optare's factory and view the city's guided busway network. Note: A report on this visit is available. Click here to see it.
- Midlands, based on Lincoln, with optional free travel from Birmingham and Nottingham, hosted by Roadcar MD Paul Hill and Oliver Howarth, will visit Road Car to see today's operating scene and some local buses of yesteryear.
- South West, starting from Bristol, hosted by Dave Bubier, will visit Stagecoach Cheltenham & District to hear about local operations from a spokesman, followed by a tour of the Forest of Dean and with further visits including a dealer in second-hand
buses. Note: This trip had to be cancelled due to insufficient support, and was replaced by a later tour, to the Forest of Dean, Hereford and Powys.
- On Sunday, 20th June 1999 (to avoid the Royal Wedding in Windsor)
- South East, hosted by Stephen Morris and Barry LeJeune, (Head of Customer Services, London Transport) will be based around Windsor, starting from West London, and will travel some little known independent byways and visit depots, the Great Cockrow Railway and Cobham Museum en route.
GENERAL
All events are subject to change - nothing in the bus industry stands
still for long - so these itineraries are an indication of our
preparations to date. All events will start and finish from locations
convenient for local transport connections - details of pick up points
and detailed start times will be included in letters confirming
bookings. The cost of each trip is £5.00 - there are no discounts but
hopefully no extras either and copious free literature will be
available. Food and drink are not provided but there will be an
opportunity for a lunch break en route. There will be lots of photo
opportunities so do bring a camera and plenty of film.
The Omnibus Society would like to thank the many operators,
organisations and individuals who are supporting the Big Buzz.
